《万夫莫敌》取材于美国历史上着名橄榄球选手文斯·帕培尔的真实经历，影片讲述了他从几乎一无所有到克服重重困难、最终实现梦想的故事。 妻子过世后，30岁的文斯连工作也丢了，只能做代课教师，一事无成、霉运不断的他为了生活甚至要在酒吧做兼职招待。虽然酷爱橄榄球运动，但他甚至没在大学队里打过球。就在人生最潦倒的时候，他最钟爱的小镇橄榄球队教练做出一个史无前例的重要决定，面向社会公开选拔球员。所有人都觉得这只是浪费时间，职业球员怎么可能这样被发掘出来。文斯偏偏不信邪，决意要通过这个途径实现自己毕生最疯狂的梦想，他出人意料地被球队录取，并开始了职业球员的生涯。已是而立之年的他加入球队之初，受尽怀疑和白眼，但他凭借不懈的努力和自身条件，终于赢得了掌声和喝彩，摆脱了底层的地位，成为一位事业辉煌的职业球员。
'Invincible' is another true sport story from Disney about a man (or team) that is lowdown and a failure at first, but eventually buckles-up and succeeds with the encouragement of their friends, their family, and occasionally their coach. It's fallows the same formula as 'The Rookie', 'Remember The Titans', and 'Miracle', but the formula works, and all of those movies, including 'Invincible', are good.
Marky Mark (are we still allowed to call him that?) is Vince Papale, a down-on-his-luck bartender who struggles to make ends meat for him and his wife. His wife leaves him, takes everything with her and leaves Vince a note that infuriates him. Meanwhile, The Eagles, who won a mere three games last season, are holding tryouts and looking for fresh players, this is devised by The Eagles new coach, Dick Vermiel (played by Greg Kinear who looks a lot like him with his 70's hairdo).
Vince is a damn good football player and plays in the dirt with his friends frequently. His pals at the bar tell him to try out but he has little fate in himself and thinks he'll never make it, but like his friend said, 'Even if your out there for only an hour, your out there.' Vince along the way goes out and talks with a fellow bartender named Janet played by Elizabeth Banks (that freaky blonde from the '40 Year Old Virgin'). She's a passionate Giants fan and isn't afraid to where her blue jersey around the die-hard Philadelphia fans.
Vince tries out for the team and makes it through the first cut and is often harassed by fellow competing teammates. Vince progresses onward and deals with his taste of fame and suffers the disappointment of his fans.
The film has some good performances from Marky Mark, Elizabeth Banks, and especially Greg Kinnear. The plot is a little predictable and like I said fallows the same path as other Disney sports films but nevertheless is an inspirational story of a once was nobody who can really play ball.
The film doesn't have anything a dad wouldn't want his son to see but is certainly realistic and will be enjoyed more by an adult or a teen. It's a good movie for a father to take his ten-year-old boy to (or older of course).
The cinematography changes during the football scenes, it's very different, as if it were by a different cinematographer. The football scenes are choreographed well and are realistic.
'Invincible' is generally an inspiring true-life tale of a 30-year-old bartender who hasn't played a game of college ball who works hard and becomes a star. It's a little cliché, but that didn't stop me from wanting to cheer Vince on as he headed for the touchdown.
